Military Romantic Movies

Military Romantic Movies - Tom Hanks wrote and stars in this movie based on "The Good Shepherd," a lesser-known novel by C.S. Forester. Hanks plays Commander Ernest Krause and follows him as he makes his first Atlantic crossing leading a convoy of troops and supply ships.

One of the most powerful moments comes during a funeral service for a fallen soldier. Amanda is there as a supportive spouse who understands, and part of Mullins' role is to do whatever he can to bring comfort and closure to the surviving spouse.

The new widow tells him that she may never be ready to know the details of how her husband died, but what she does want to know is the music that he listened to the morning before his death.

Little things mean the most. Olivia begins to work with putting together a Christmas program involving spouses and families from the military and begins to see the real daily dilemmas and trials of military wives. The supporting cast who portray these spouses brings a refreshing reality to these roles.

Olivia becomes bonded to this new support system, even helping to deliver a baby. She also gets wisdom from Scott's mother, a military wife of many decades, who tells her that the love that "lights up" her son's face is real and strong enough to stand the trials.

Olivia told Scott not to expect her to be waiting for him, but does she have a change of heart? The considerable talents and screen presences of William Devane, Meredith Baxter, and Dean McDermott combine to create a drama that stands well for more than a decade and reminds everyone that a life well-lived, in military service or otherwise, is a lasting gift.

It might be a strain to call this a military movie, but it does take place in a post-war environment decimated by the Civil War. The fallout of that conflict hangs over every scene of this beautiful and epic western.

One may be with relatives and family numbers. One may include opening presents chosen for children on Christmas morning. If they are blessed to have the presence of their military service member, they may celebrate on whatever day is possible around the actual date.

Oscar-winning documentarian Barbara Kopple takes on the Carter Administration's 1979 failed raid to rescue the U.S. hostages in Iran. In spite of remarkably poor intelligence on the ground in Tehran, Delta Force came up with a workable plan that had a decent chance of success.

A comet is about to slam into planet earth and cause an extinction-level event. Gerard Butler is a structural engineer who's having marital problems with his wife, played by Morena Baccarin. The family is chosen to be part of a program that flies a small group to a remote bunker in hopes humanity can survive the disaster.

The U.S. Air Force plays a big part in the plan's logistics and airmen are providing humanitarian support to the population who's getting left behind. It's a movie, so the family's journey is far more complicated than just showing up at Robins Air Force Base and hopping onto a plane, but director Ric Roman Waugh makes the drama worthwhile.

Hanks' Capt. Jefferson Kyle Kidd somehow finds himself saddled with the task of delivering an orphaned white girl raised by the Kiowa tribe to distant white relatives in Texas and must negotiate hostile territory and even more hostile white men to get her there.

Sometimes, small acts of kindness can go a long way. Cody Cullen, a U.S. Army Master Sergeant, knows that all too well. With no family to speak of, Cullen grows close with his fellow soldiers, and even receives Christmas Cards from one soldier's hometown of Nevada City, California, a gift that Cullen literally holds close to his heart during the remainder of his deployment.

The Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies and Mysteries have laid claim as a refuge of calm and peace through the holiday season—a place of soothing predictability in the plot, free of the screaming headlines heralding the latest investigations of corruption, collusion, and misconduct from every

sociopolitical corner. Spike Lee follows a group of Vietnam veterans in the current times as they revisit the country for both a reunion and as part of a scheme to recover buried treasure. Things don't go according to plan and their past traumas don't stay buried.

Lee made the movie for Netflix, so it was never planned for a big theatrical release. One of the modern classic romance films (and a real tear-jerker), The Notebook is based on the 1996 Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name.

Starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, the film tells the tale of young, forbidden love made even more difficult when Fin (Gosling) enlists to fight in World War II. This biographical war drama directed by Clint Eastwood tells the story of American Sniper Chris Kyle, and is loosely based on Kyle's own memoirs.

While most of the film focuses on Kyle's time in combat, Eastwood does a fantastic job capturing the hardships of motherhood for women left alone while their husbands are fighting overseas. The film received six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Actor (Bradley Cooper).

The Last Vermeer

A Dutch Army captain is on the hunt for Nazi collaborators in the aftermath of World War II and stumbles upon an art dealer who appears to have sold a newly discovered and impossibly rare painting by the legendary Johannes Vermeer to German Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring.

"Top Gun: Maverick" looms large over 2020. The film first lost its summer release date and then the producers (wisely, it turns out) gave up on a Christmas release. We won't see the movie until July 2021 and that's only if the recovery goes according to plan.

Based off Michael Ondaatje's novel of the same name, The English Patient takes place during World War II and tells the story of Count Laszlo de Almásy, a Hungarian cartographer who has suffered terrible injuries in a plane crash.

While being tended to by a French-Canadian nurse, Almásy reveals the details of his own fateful love affair. The film was nominated for 12 Academy Awards and won nine of them, including Best Picture, Best Director (Anthony Minghella), and Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Juliette Binoche).

Plus, it inspired an all-time classic Seinfeld episode. This feature from the 2017 lineup brings together Julie Benz, known recently from “Hawaii Five-O,” and Michael Shanks as Amanda and Master Sergeant Jim Mullins. Amanda is still healing from the loss of her military husband, saving his last words to her from the past, a hopeful Christmas promise of coming home.

She rents a room to Jim while he rehabilitates after an injury in Afghanistan. This slow-burning story of coming to healing and love again has some powerful and tender moments. Among the most memorable are ones that portray Amanda finally coming to the decision to pack away her husband's things, and put her wedding ring in a drawer.

The scene revolving around the phone message also turns pivotal. While on leave in Charleston, South Carolina, John Tyree (Channing Tatum) meets Savannah Curtis (Amanda Seyfried) and the two fall fast in love during their two weeks together.

News Of The World

But all good things must come to an end, and John is sent back to Afghanistan shortly after their spring fling. Although the two plan to start a family together after John returns, John decides he must reenlist after the attacks on 9/11.

The film is based on Nicholas Sparks's book by the same name. One last note: make sure you have some tissues nearby. Director Paul Greengrass and Tom Hanks previously worked together on "Captain Phillips." Hanks is a captain again in "News of the World," this time a Civil War veteran who travels the southwest performing stories from newspapers for illiterate and itinerant workers, many of whom are fellow war vets.

A U.S. platoon that's part of the WWII invasion of Italy is sent on what seems like a suicidal reconnaissance mission into the Alps. They're guided by an Italian partisan (Franco Nero) who may or may not be on their side.

There's also "No Time to Die," the James Bond movie that was completed over a year ago and was the first major release to pull the plug this year. Daniel Craig's last performance as 007 is now scheduled for spring, but that date is starting to look a bit questionable if things don't turn around soon.

To its credit, the Hallmark Christmas television franchise is making concerted efforts to incorporate fuller diversity in casts and through storylines in the current season, and that continued change is needed throughout the television industry. Another noticeable statement in the offerings of the season is the depiction of Christmas for the military family.

The revelations that came this week regarding the death of Army Sgt. La David Johnson extols and validates his heroism in being hit as many as 18 times under militant gunfire in Niger last October. This 2016 Hallmark Channel Christmas story stars familiar Hallmark stars, Tricia Helfer and Marc Blucas as two single parents, Olivia and Scott, who meet on a ski vacation.

When Olivia realizes that the man she feels a new instant connection with is in the armed forces, she has reservations and backs away. The newly-acquainted families share a very bonding Christmas before Scott gets news that he will be deploying.

Director and Army veteran Rod Lurie tells the story of the Afghanistan War's 2009 Battle of Kamdesh at Combat Outpost Keating in a movie that deserved a wider audience. Scott Eastwood and Orlando Bloom star in the film about an incident that resulted in Army Staff Sgts.

That means a lot of people won't be able to see it right away because either their local theaters are closed or they aren't ready to go back to the ones that are open.

That pisses Rake off and he sets out to save the boy and extract his own revenge. This is Hemsworth's best role outside of the Marvel movies and there are already plans for a sequel. This could become a signature series for Hemsworth and producers Joe and Anthony Russo (who directed the actor in the "Avengers" movies).

Catherine Bell stars as the widowed mother of a teenage daughter who falls in love with a young soldier about to deploy from a local army base. Mom is resistant to the relationship, which naturally pulls the two young lovers closer together.

On the day he is about to deploy, the mother reveals her own story of losing her military husband, and thus, her desire to protect her daughter from the same pain. During a school choir performance, the soldier's name is read among those recently lost.

The Outpost

The daughter is devastated and has only her mother to understand. Through grief, mother and daughter come to understand that protecting someone from pain may also prevent them from fully experiencing love. Master Sergeant Mullins decides to remain in the military, and Amanda struggles with whether she is ready to endure the rigors of being a military wife again.

The scenes at the bus are satisfying, despite the too-easy final scene. Starring Jane Fonda and Jon Voigt, this film explores the struggles that Military Spouses face while their S.O. is on deployment. Sally Hyde (Fonda), loyal wife of Bob Hyde (Bruce Dern), a captain in the United States Marine Corps, must learn how to navigate through life while her husband is fighting in Vietnam.

But things get complicated when Sally reunites with a former high school classmate, Luke Martin (Voight). Directed by Michael Bay and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, this film boasts a star-studded cast including Ben Affleck, Kate Beckinsale, Josh Hartnett, Cuba Gooding Jr., Jon Voight, Alec Baldwin, and more.

While the film includes breathtaking scenes of the infamous battle, the real story here is the love triangle between Capt. Rafe McCawley (Affleck), Capt. Danny Walker (Hartnett) and Nurse Lt. Evelyn Johnson (Beckinsale). Ethan Smith is a Contributing Writer for SpouseLink, a website that links, supports, informs, and inspires Military Spouses around the world.
